Heavy Duty Abrasion Resistant Steel

ROCKSTAR 450

New-generation wear-resistant plates from Jindal Steel & Power. Quenched / Quenched & Tempered for superior hardness, toughness and fabrication ease.
Datasheet • ROCKSTAR Series

1) General Description

Introducing the new generation of ROCKSTAR Wear Resistant Plates – grades 400, 450 and 500. Produced through cutting-edge Quenched or Quenched & Tempered process, the plates deliver high hardness with excellent toughness and tight dimensional tolerances for easy fabrication. Individual size capability depends on actual plate dimensions; thickness > 100 mm can be serviced by mutual discussion.
Higher Hardness High Toughness Tight Tolerances Ease of Fabrication

2) Dimension Range

  • Thickness: 8 – 100 mm*
  • Width: 1500 – 4800 mm
  • Length: As per requirement

*Thickness > 100 mm on discussion with customer.

3) Typical Hardness by Grade

GradeHardness (BHN)
ROCKSTAR 400360 Min (Typical 360–450)
ROCKSTAR 450425 Min (Typical 425–500)
ROCKSTAR 500470 Min (Typical 470–550)

Brinell hardness per EN ISO 6506-1 on milled surface 0.5–3.0 mm below surface.

8) Welding Parameters (Guidance)

  • Use low-hydrogen consumables: E7018H4 / E8018G
  • Preheat (≥30 mm): 120–170°C
  • Interpass temperature: ≤ 220°C
  • Heat input: 1.5 – 2.0 kJ/mm
  • All conventional methods (SMAW, SAW, MIG/MAG) applicable

Low CE gives good weldability; lower-strength consumables help toughness & reduce hydrogen cracking.

9) Heat Treatment & Service

  • Supplied As-Quenched / Quenched & Tempered
  • Mechanical properties guaranteed by water quenching / Q&T
  • Do not expose to preheat/service temperatures > 220°C
  • Not intended for further heat treatment

10) Applications

  • Dump body trucks, loaders, shovels, bulldozer buckets
  • Crushers, mixers, chutes, hoppers, body liners
  • Yellow goods, construction, mining & material-handling equipment
  • Environments with hard rocks, bulk loading & explosive shocks

11) Tolerances & Testing

  • Thickness: EN 10029 Class A (Class B/C/D on request)
  • Width & Length: EN 10029 / as agreed
  • Flatness: EN 10029 Class N Type H (tighter on request)
  • Surface: EN 10163-2 Class A Subclass 1 / as required
  • UT: EN 10160 S0E0 / S1E1 or ASTM 578 Level A/B/C or ASTM A435

12) USP – Manufacturing

  • 300 mm slab caster → high reduction ratio → uniform properties
  • MULPIC cooling → superior surface & homogeneous properties
  • 200-bar descaling, power leveler for stringent flatness
  • Heat-treatment facility up to 150 mm (200 mm under installation)
