6 Delivery conditions & heat treatment
Delivered quenched and tempered. Standard: shot-blasted and painted with low zinc silicate primer. Plates can also be supplied unpainted.Do not use in hot working or service temperatures above 550 °C to preserve guaranteed properties.
7 Ultrasonic testing
All plates ≥ 8 mm are UT tested according to EN 10160, class S2, E2, to detect inclusions, cracks, and porosity.8 Processing recommendations
Thermal cutting
Can be cut by oxy-fuel, plasma, or laser. Allow slow cooling to room temperature; never accelerate cooling.Cold forming
Suited for cold forming. Complies with S690QL bending requirements with closer R/t ratios. Grind edges in bending area to prevent cracking.Welding
Suitable for all conventional methods. Preheating generally not needed up to 30 mm if heat input ≤ 1.7 kJ/mm. Use low hydrogen electrodes. Weld at ≥ +5 °C and allow slow cooling.Machining
Good machinability: drilling, countersinking, and milling like other 700 MPa Q&T steels.Minimum recommended R/t ratio when bending
| Thickness | Transverse (R/t) | Longitudinal (R/t) | Trans. Width (W/t) | Long. Width (W/t) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| t < 8 mm | 1.5 | 2.0 | 8 | 9 |
| 8 ≤ t < 20 | 2.0 | 3.0 | 8 | — |
| t ≥ 20 mm | 3.0 | 4.0 | 9 | 10 |
