S690QL
High Yield Strength Structural Steel (EN 10025‑6)
1 Steel description and applications
S690QL is a high‑yield strength structural steel (material number 1.8928) supplied in the quenched and tempered condition. It provides an excellent balance of strength, toughness, abrasion resistance and weldability. Typical hardness is 235–295 BHN (informational only).
Recommended applications
- Earthmoving equipment and dump trucks
- Mobile cranes and drilling rigs
- High‑speed fans
- Bridges and lightweight, high‑capacity structures

4 Fabrication & forming
S690QL plates can be readily formed or bent at room temperature with adequate power and proper procedures. As a guide, forming power is typically three times that for conventional carbon structural steels.
Hot forming: avoid temperatures above 560 °C, as this may alter the initial tempering and affect mechanical properties.
