Tensile Structure Steel E250 Plate
IS 2062 Structural Steel Grade
1. What is E250 Steel?
E250 is an Indian standard (IS 2062) structural steel grade, widely used in construction, engineering, and fabrication. The “E” stands for Elastic modulus (tensile strength grade) and “250” indicates a minimum yield strength of 250 MPa.
2. Mechanical Properties of E250
| Property | Value |
|---|---|
| Yield Strength | ≥ 250 MPa |
| Tensile Strength | 410 – 540 MPa |
| Elongation | ~23% minimum |
3. Types / Quality Grades
- E250 A – Non-killed steel, basic quality
- E250 B – Semi-killed steel, better ductility
- E250 C – Killed steel, fully deoxidized, superior weldability
- E250 BR / BO / Cu – Variants with impact test, bendability, or copper for corrosion resistance
4. Chemical Composition (Typical)
| Element | Max % |
|---|---|
| Carbon (C) | 0.23% |
| Manganese (Mn) | 1.50% |
| Sulphur (S) | 0.045% |
| Phosphorus (P) | 0.045% |
| Silicon (Si) | 0.40% |
